Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Response

Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
