The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person in the world that I want up in that situation other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
