The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
